Drainage Design for Development

We can design surface water, foul water and highways drainage schemes for all stages of the project lifecycle for all types of development.

Our expertise ranges from drainage schemes for planning applications (outline, full or reserved matters or discharge of conditions) through to detailed designs supported by full suites of CAD drawings for adoption and approvals and for construction, as part of our scheme delivery service.

Our approach is to develop drainage schemes that minimise capital expenditure whilst complying with the relevant national and local policy and drainage law.

We have extensive experience of delivering significant and quanitfiable time and cost savings to our clients, based on our design expertise, and our knowledge of drainage law and policy.

Our expertise of foul water drainage includes the clarification of load estimate, proposed infrastructure requirements and any off-site reinforcement requirements, and utilities costing and budgetary advice.

Weetwood is experienced in evaluating the effects of surface water runoff from developments in all flood zones.

We can determine allowable, pre and post development runoff rates, provide guidance on the most cost effective drainage solutions, and design and advise on the implementation of traditional and sustainable drainage schemes (SuDS).

Carefully planned surface water management systems can reduce flood risk both within the development and also off-site. The use of SuDS components may provide the oportunity for environmental betterment and can reduce the need for expensive underground storage.

Our foul water designs detail how a development connects to the existing infrastructure; identifies whether sufficient capacity exists or if reinforcement is required, the need for diversion; the budget cost of reinforcement and/or diversion, and how existing infrastructure may best be protected with minimum impact on development potential.

We develop client focused solutions based on a coherent and focused desktop study using statutory records from the relevant water company.

Our understanding of discharge rate computation, the pricing regimes of service providers and the role of the regulators enable us to consistently provide cost savings for our clients

The planning process provides the opportunity to apply the principles of integrated urban drainage when determining the layout of new development and we work closely with architects, planning consultants and masterplanners to optimise drainage solutions.
